KLK1 Protease

Kallikrein-1(KLK1, tissue kallidrein) is a member of the peptidase S1 family, it is a serine protease enzyme. KLK1 can cleave kininogen to release the vasoactive kinin peptide (bradykinin or lysyl-bradykinin), which can regulate vasodilation, reduce blood pressure, smooth muscle relaxation and contraction, respond to inflammation, and tissue injury.

KLK1 has a beneficial role in protecting against tissue damage by its anti-inflammatory and antioxidant actions. It is also investigated as a potential biomarker for kidney injury and various cancers.
